Faux Quilted Background Tutorial

Hi friends! I hope your summer/winter (depending on the hemisphere!) has been great so far! I am really exited to share that starting this month, I will be sharing tutorials here on the blog each month on how to create one-layer digital cards with products from the MHKDesigns Etsy Shop that look like the have been cut and layered! I feel like a lot of the cards I make are never mailed because they get bulky, so this is a way I can ensure that some of them at least will make it out of my house! ;)  Take a peek at the first card I have to share with you in this series...

Isn't it pretty??? I love the way the papers are layered and look like a faux quilt! That's why I'm calling this digital technique "Digital Faux Quilted Background". The papers I used for this technique are from the Sunflower Sampler digital paper pack. The image (from the Stitched Sunflower digital stamp set) was not colored digitally, though. I colored it in with Spectrum Noir markers after it was printed. The burlap ribbon was also added for some added texture!

If you'd like to see a tutorial on how to create this technique, head on over to check out the video on the MHKDesigns YouTube channel!! The card I make for the tutorial is different colors and looks like this once it is colored and has ribbon added...

That's all I have for you today, friends! Thank you so much for stopping by! I always love to hear from you, so please do let me know your thoughts in the comments below! Don't forget to hop back and join in our *NEW* challenge tomorrow for your chance at winning some digital goodies from the MHKDesigns Etsy Shop! Until next time, HUGS and happy {digital} stamping, friends!

This card was created using the Stitched Sunflower Digital Stamp set, colored with Copic markers.  The sentiment is also from the set.
Papers for this card are also from the MHKDesigns Etsy Shop.  They're Autumnal Accents Digital Papers.  Beautiful, aren't they?

MHKD Designer Inspiration: SathyaSankaran

Hi Friends!!

Its Designer Sathya Sankaran with my Monthly Inspiration.

I made this card using Stitched Sunflower digi set. Just colored the printed digis with Faber castell bicolor pencils , fussy cut and mounted on a Beautifully brocade digi paper, which was matted on a ivory A2 cardbase.

Butterfly image from Butterfly wisdom is colored and fussy cut, mounted near the flower. Sentiment is matted with Sunflower sampler digi paper and tucked under satin ribbons.

This finishes off the card. Hope you like it!

MHK Designer Inspiration: Rocky

My inspiration this month is made using a butterfly image from Beginnings and Endings and a sentiment from Stitched Sunflower.
The backing paper has been made using the image placed at random across the page in Publisher, when printed I have used the draft function to get a faded look. Once cut to fit my card blank I have used Broken China Distress Ink to colour the edges so it matches the mat layer and the main image.
The main image is coloured with watercolour pens, spritzed with a pearl spray and then cut out. It is stuck flush to the card along it's body but has foam pads under it's wings so they stand up a little, with hand drawn antenna.
The sentiment has been cut out then had the corners rounded, this has also been inked to match the colour scheme. It is stuck on very thin foam pads. The mat layer is pearl paper which luckily matches the butterfly and the inking.
It's a very simple card but that's sometimes just what we need, relatively easy to make, with a simple but uplifting comment.
Come and join in our challenge, you don't have to use MHK Designs images but we would love it if you did. If you don't have any MHK Designs yet then this could be your chance to win some.

MHKDesigners Inspiration Post: Donna

Donna here with MHKDesigns and my monthly inspiration post.

I could not resist using last months releases Stitched Sunflowers   and the  Sunflower Sampler Pack again.  Sunflowers are one of my favorite flowers and I fell in love with this sunflower, the beautiful sayings with it and the paper pack.  After coloring my sunflower with Copics I covered it with Versamark ink and embossed it with clear embossing powder.  I did this 3 times for depth and effect.  I had seen this paper fold numerous times and had wanted to give it a try.  It is easy peasy.

Tutorial:
1 )  Choose a two side paper or  make your own like I did  by gluing two of the papers from the Sunflower Sampler Pack together.
2) Measure  the right long side of your patterned paper and make a mark at the center.
3)  Cut a straight line 2" in from the center.
4)  Fold from the center of your cut line to the top right corner, smooth with a bone folder and put a dot of two side tape underneath to secure.
5) fold from the center of your cut line to the bottom right corner, smooth with a bone folder, put a dot of two sided tape underneath to secure.
6) Add your image over your cut line with pop dots or adhesive.

These items can be purchased at MHKDesigns Etsy shop.

Let me know if you try this, I would enjoy visiting your blog and seeing your art work!

Thanks for stopping by!

MHK Designer Inspiration : SathyaSankaran

Hi Crafty Peeps,

Its me Sathya, for this month's DT inspiration using Stitched Sunflower digi stampset with Sunflower sampler papers. Must say, am addicted to this set of digi papers :)

This digi stampset is with such lovely sentiments and a sunflower.

I love chevron pps and by now you would be aware of it too :)
Matted the sentiment using yellow and green chevron pps and matted this on to the brown chevron pp. Wanted the sentiment to be focal point this time.

Colored the sunflowers by Zig clean colorbrush pens and fussy cut it. I love heat embossing and so to make these flower as embellies, I heat embossed those flowers using UTEE clear Ep. At this stage, it just mimics the Sospeso flowers :) Watercolored and fussy cut few leaves and added these with flowers, below the sentiment frame using foam adhesives and completed the card by matting it on to a white A2 cardbase.

Thank you for stopping by!

More inspirations are to follow from my fellow Teamies and Don't forget to visit our MHKDesigns Etsy shop and to grab lovely releases :)
